Meg Munn, MP for Sheffield Heeley, officially cut the first sod at the Norfolk Park Medical Centre construction site on Friday in a ceremony to mark the beginning of building work on the new medical centre and one-stop shop for community services on Beldon Road, Norfolk Park.

The scheme has been commissioned by NHS Sheffield and will be delivered by Community 1st Sheffield to combine a range of medical services, including GP and nursing facilities, minor surgery and a pharmacy, whilst also providing a hub for the local community.

Tony Pedder, Chairman of NHS Sheffield and the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw cluster of PCTs, said: “The build at Norfolk Park is part of a plan to develop four new medical centres in the city by 2013. The plans have been developed alongside local GPs, partners and members of the community with the aim of providing modern, high quality and sustainable services for the future of healthcare in Sheffield.”

Meg Munn, MP for Sheffield Heeley, said: “I am delighted to see building work begin on the new medical centre. The regeneration of Norfolk Park is now nearly complete and it’s a first class place to live. A new health centre will mean local people can benefit from a wide range of modern facilities on their doorstep in the same way as residents in other parts of Sheffield.”

Community 1st Sheffield has appointed Kier Northern to construct this new development which was designed by integrated design team Blue Sky Design Services www.blueskyinspired.co.uk
